criticalartware.net

criticalartware is an [application/platform/concern] compiled at the turn of the 21rst century to address the hystories of New Media, [software-as-art/art-as-software] and [connections/ruptures/dislocations] between early moments of artware and Video Art. criticalartware seeks to [map/portscan/realize] the as-yet-unfulfilled promises first proposed by those involved in the early Video Art moment, such as the developers of Radical Software, the first journal of Video Art.
criticalartware interviews participants in the early early Video Art moment and current artware developers, [discussing/illuminating] the community + development of the early moments of [code/concept]-based New Media art theorypractice. criticalartware freely offers these interview as {text|audio|video} data to be downloaded and exchanged as shared cultural resources in the ever-malleable Likn. By drawing [parallels/paths] between the [concepts/discourses] of the early video art movement and current [artware/New Media] moment, criticalartware hopes to [re]connect the current context to its rightful past: a multitude of [personal/subjective] hyperthreaded [her/hi]stories. To that end and through collaborative efforts, criticalartware core.developer BenSyverson created Likn, an emergent, polymorphous [cybernetic application/metaorganism] that encourages information to crosslink and breed semiautomatically, with relevant paths growing stronger while irrelevant paths fade away. - criticalartware

criticalartware was founded in 2002, after the core.developers met in the FVNM class Radical Software Critical Artware created by jonCates. current core.developers jon.satrom and BenSyverson are both alumni of the SAIC BFA program and the FVNM Undergraduate curriculum.
