Grad Screening @ Busker

The department of Film, Video and New Media is deeply committed to developing experimental and innovative approaches to curating, programming and distributing media art. As a department, Film, Video and New Media engages many forms of public programming and media art events including:

CURRENT EVENTS
Conversations at the Edge
Film, Video and New Media, in association with the Video Data Bank and the Gene Siskel Film Center, present a series of Thursday night screenings at the Film Center. Conversations at the Edge brings to Chicago media makers, critics, scholars and theorists in dialogue around the most provocative and daring works being produced in media today.

Eye & Ear Clinic
The Eye&Ear Clinic is a free bi-weekly film screening series organized by first-year SAIC FVNM graduate students. The series presents to the public seminal experimental, avant-garde, and artists films from the Flaxman Library archive, in addition to work by department faculty.

FRAY. Enter the fray of conversational hyperthreads in the Film, Video and New Media department's "FRAY" mini series on time, screen + code based experimental media art. FRAY consists of coordinated events including interrelated discussions, screenings + projects during the Spring 2006 semester.

COURSES
Knowledge of curatorial, programming, distribution, and professional practices have become ever more important for students. At the same time, we see a return to traditional fine art-oriented economics for media in galleries and museums as well as new speculative financing models. Professional practices are changing as rapidly as technology in our field, and preparing students for a career in media requires analysis, creativity, and development of socially-bound skills that must be developed in and outside of the classroom. Film, Video and New Media offers a range of courses addressing theses and related issues. Courses include:

FVNM Curation and Programming
Independent Distribution for Film/Video/New Media
Microcinemas
Film Festival Production
Cinematic Spaces
Film and Video: It's Public, It's Audience
Alternative Cinematic Exhibition
