About:

My work lies at the intersection where the public and the private worlds meet. It is strongly anchored in the intimate connection that exists between the political and the personal, between the role of history and that of memory in the construction of what we call Ëreality.Ó Through the use of written and visual poetry, combined with documentary techniques, I create works of non-fiction that bring a personal dimension to the documentary tradition.

In the specific case of I wonder what you will remember of September I position myself as a Chilean living in Chicago (which I am), and from this perspective I respond to the events that took place in New York on September 11, 2001. The result comes in the shape of my mother and father¯s recollections of the events of September 11, 1973, the day of the Chilean coup. The work points directly at how personal and collective histories intersect and interact, and particularly at how trauma is lived, supposedly erased, and finally passed on from one generation to the next.

By working at the intersection of the public and private worlds, and by means of a personal approach, my work seeks to deliver an alternative history, one that shatters that notion of the self as a series of disconnected parts and of history as the patrimony of a few.
